The legal status column comes first deliberately. From 27 August it is what decides whether a system is something you plug in or something an electrician connects.

Every kit we tracked has come off sale. We check each listing by hand before we recommend it. As at 22 August 2026 all of them were withdrawn, unavailable, or turned out to be an inverter with no panels. Rather than send you to a dead page, we have taken them down.

What we think is happening

The timing points one way. Manufacturers appear to have pulled UK stock ahead of 27 August so they can relaunch with hardware and paperwork that meet the new rules. That would mean a moulded BS 1363 plug instead of the Schuko leads most of this kit shipped with, and an entry on the ENA register. If that is right, the listings return within days rather than months.

What the register says

Filtered to Great Britain, plug-in solar, compliance status Compliant, the ENA Connect Direct register returned 7 products on 22 August 2026. All are from a single manufacturer and none is sold on Amazon. So on the day the rules change, almost nothing on the open market is lawful to plug in.

What to do in the meantime. Work out what you are looking for, so you can judge a kit in the thirty seconds after it appears. When the listings return, ask the seller two questions. What is the ENA Connect Direct reference for this device, and what plug is on the AC lead. A seller who cannot answer the first almost certainly has no entry, and the second cannot be fixed with an adapter. The full legal guide explains why.

About this comparison

Why is legal status the first column?

Because from 27 August 2026 it is the specification that decides whether you can install a system yourself or need to pay an electrician, and it is the one no manufacturer puts on the box. A battery-integrated system is not covered by the plug-in framework regardless of how good it is.

Why do some rows say the price is unverified?

Because we only quote a price we have checked against a source, with the date we checked it. Amazon prices in this category move weekly. Telling you to check is more use than printing a number that was true last month.

What does an unconfirmed plug type mean in practice?

It means the listing does not state whether the kit ships with a UK three-pin plug or a Schuko lead, and we could not establish it. That matters more than it sounds: the Interim Product Specification prohibits plug adapters and convertors outright, so a Schuko lead is not something you can work around. Ask the seller before you order.
